I never want to be without my supplemental instructors. They are terrific! They guide me, they teach me, as well as teaching the students.
-Cyndi Walker, Professor of Psychology
Supplemental Instruction provides regularly-scheduled, informal review sessions in which students compare notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and predict test items.
Students that regularly attend SI Sessions statistically earn at least one letter grade higher than those who do not attend SI.
Students learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working together.
SI Leaders are students who have previously done well in the course and who attend all class lectures, take notes, and act as model students.
SI Sessions are scheduled according to the best time that accommodates the majority of students that are attending the course. SI Leaders also establish office hours to provide additional opportunities to meet.
The SI Motto, "Involve me and I understand," is based on the idea that collaborative learning is the most effective method to gain understanding in a topic.
